[긴급] 비트코인 돌연 "9.78% 대 폭락 " 뉴욕증시 빅테크 대란… 대체 무슨 일?

가상화폐 비트코인이 28개월만에 사상 최고가를 찍은 후 돌연 급락하고 있다.

6일 뉴욕증시에 따르면 가상 암호화폐 대표주자인 비트코인은 한때 6만9천달러를 돌파하며, 사상 최고가를 경신했다. 비트코인이 6만9천 달러를 돌파한 것은 처음이다. 2021년 11월에 세웠던 최고가 6만8990달러를 갈아치웠다. 비트코인은 그러나 코인메트릭스 기준으로 6만9천210달러 까지 치솟은 뒤 곧바로 급락했다. 비트코인은 2023년 10월 이후 160% 급등했고, 지난 2월에만 40%가 넘게 상승했다.
비트코인 가격은 테라·루나 사태와 가상화폐거래소 FTX 파산 등으로 1만6천 달러대까지 급락했던 2022년 11월 대비 4배 수준을 넘었다. 비트코인의 사상 최고가 경신은 미 규제당국의 현물 상장지수펀드(ETF) 승인과 이를 통한 대규모 자금 유입이 큰 요인으로 작용했다. 미국 미 증권거래위원회(SEC)는 지난 1월 10일 세계 최대 자산운용사 블랙록 등이 신청한 11개 현물 ETF를 승인했다.

뉴욕증시 에 따르면 비트코인 ETF 등장 이후 세계 최대 자산운용사 블랙록과 피델리티 인베스먼트 등을 통해 순 유입된 금액은 무려 73억5천만 달러에 달한다. JP모건 체이스 최고경영자(CEO) 제이미 다이먼부터 가상화폐 회의론자들이 비트코인을 가치가 없는 투기의 대상으로 여겼으나 블랙록이 반등을 이끌었다. 지난해 6월 블랙록이 비트코인에 직접 투자하는 아이셰어스 비트코인 트러스트를 신청하면서 앞서 여러 차례 비슷한 시도가 있었지만 최대 ETF 제공업체인 블랙록의 규모와 영향력은 결과가 다를 수 있다는 신호로 여겨졌다. 비트코인 공급량이 절반으로 줄어드는 반감기도 가격을 끌어올렸다. 비트코인의 공급량은 총 2천100만개로 제한돼 있으며, 이 중 1천900만 개는 이미 채굴된 상태다. 반감기 이후 채굴자들에게 주어지는 보상이 절반으로 줄어든다.

Bitcoin has reached a new all-time high for the first time in more than two years, as this year’s rally, fueled by excitement over bitcoin exchange-traded funds and the upcoming halving event, has accelerated.

The price of the cryptocurrency topped $69,210 on Tuesday morning before retreating, according to Coin Metrics. It was last trading lower by 8% at $61,873.91. The flagship crypto notched its previous record of $68,982.20 on Nov. 10, 2021, about a year before the catastrophic failure of FTX plagued the crypto industry in what some call crypto’s Lehman Brothers moment.

“Bitcoin reclaiming its all-time high yet again shows it is never going away,” said Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy Digital. “In its 15 years of existence, bitcoin has seen four 75% [plus] drawdowns, and each time it has come roaring back.”

Clara Medalie, research director at crypto data provider Kaiko, echoed that sentiment, saying a new record is “an important psychological milestone” and “demonstrates crypto’s remarkable ability to bounce back and continue to persevere despite big headwinds.” However, it “doesn’t have much material impact on the pace of innovation in the industry,” she added.
“Bitcoin becomes more useful as it grows more valuable,” Thorn added. “At higher market caps and daily float, it can support larger allocations. Bitcoin’s volatility has consistently decreased over time, allowing allocations to take larger position sizes.”

뉴욕증시는 기술주들이 약세를 보이면서 하락세다. 뉴욕증권거래소(NYSE)에서 다우존스30산업평균지수와 스탠더드앤드푸어스(S&P)500지수 그리고 나스닥지수 모두 떨어지고 있다. 뉴욕증시 개장 과 함께 애플과 AMD 등에 대한 부정적 뉴스가 나오면서 기술주들이 하락 압력을 받고 있다.
